Clap Battle

MONSTERS GO TO TOWN    MONSTER MATCH

GAME SETUP:  BEAT CARDS

SIMILAR TO:  ---
FOCUSES ON:  RHYTHM

GOAL: BUILD MEASURES & CLAP RHYTHMS!

SETUP

  • Shuffle the Monster BEAT Cards and place them face-down as the draw deck.
  • Leave space for a discard pile beside the deck, and turn one card over to start it.

GAMEPLAY

On your turn, you may draw from the deck or take the top card from the discard pile. Place each card face-up in front of you as you try to build a measure. (No cards are held in hand.)

If you cannot or do not wish to use the card, place it face-up in the discard pile instead.

You may add cards in any spot, even between cards you already have. You can also replace multiple cards you already have down in your measure, and discard unwanted cards. For example, if you have a partially-completed measure and you draw a whole note, you can immediately discard all of your cards in order to complete your measure with the whole note card.

The goal is to build a full measure.

  • When you have a full measure, clap the rhythm. Once you perform it correctly, you score one point. Set the completed measure aside to keep track of your score (or use minions as point-keeping).
  • If you fail to perform the measure accurately, you can just try again on your next turn. However, you may also continue playing normally, adjusting your measure until you have something you can perform successfully.
  • After you've finished a measure and set it aside, begin building a new measure on your next turn.
  • Note: Be sure to watch the cards of the player after you, so you don't discard a card they need!

WINNING THE GAME

Play continues until one player has earned five points. Finish out the round to allow for a tie.
