GAME SETUP: BEAT CARDS • MONSTERS & MINIONS
EACH PLAYER GETS: 1 MONSTER + 5 MINIONS
SIMILAR TO: ---
FOCUSES ON: RHYTHM
✦ GOAL: COMPETE TO BUILD MEASURES & STOMP RHYTHMS! ✦
SETUP
- Give each player a monster.
- Shuffle the Monster BEAT Cards and place them face-down as the draw deck.
- Leave space for a discard pile beside the deck, and turn one card over to start it.
GAMEPLAY
On your turn, you may draw from the deck or take the top card from the discard pile. Place each card face-up in front of you as you try to build a measure. (No cards are held in hand.)
If you cannot or do not wish to use the card, place it face-up in the discard pile instead. If your cards add up to over four beats, you must discard one (or more!) cards to keep your measure under that limit.
You may rearrange your cards however you like. You can also replace multiple cards you already have, discarding any number of unwanted cards. For example, if you have a partially-completed measure and you draw a whole note, you can immediately discard all of your other cards in order to complete your measure with the whole note card.
The goal is to build a full measure.
- When you have a full measure, have your monster stomp the rhythm along the cards. If you perform it correctly, you score one point. Use a minion to represent each point.
- If you fail to perform the measure accurately, you can just try again on your next turn. However, you may also continue playing normally, adjusting your measure until you have something you can stomp successfully.
- After you've finished a measure, set it aside (to be shuffled back into the deck when needed). On your next turn, begin building a new measure.
- Note: Be sure to watch the cards of the player that comes after you, so you don't discard a card they can use!
WINNING THE GAME
Play continues until one player has earned five points (earned 5 minions). Finish out the round to allow for a tie.
