GAME SETUP: NOTE CARDS
EACH PLAYER GETS: SEVEN CARDS
SIMILAR TO: UNO / CRAZY EIGHTS
FOCUSES ON: NOTE RECOGNITION
✦ MATCH NOTES TO USE UP YOUR CARDS! ✦
SETUP
- Deal seven cards to each player, and place the rest as a draw pile.
- Flip the top card to start the discard pile.
- For absolute beginners, you can reduce the number of cards in the deck (e.g. limiting it to one clef).
GAMEPLAY
On your turn: Match the top card on the discard pile by either:
- Note: any pitch, any value (e.g. quarter note G + half note G)
- Note value: same value, any note (e.g. whole note A + whole note F)
Place your matching card on top of the pile.
If you can’t match, draw one card. If playable, use it immediately; otherwise, keep it and your turn ends. Be sure to say “pass” if you can’t put anything down, so the next player knows to go
Special cards
The following action cards must match the previous card’s note value:
- Rest forces the next player to skip their turn.
- Repeat reverses the direction of gameplay.
- Draw 2 forces the next player to draw two cards and forfeit their turn.
- Seek forces the next player to draw cards until they get the specified note value (or a wild). They can then play that card.
- Stack allows you to discard up to four cards of the specified note value. Place your extra cards underneath the stack card.
The following cards do not need to match the previous card:
- Wild lets you chose the note value going forward.
- Wild Draw 4 is the same as Wild, but also forces the next player to draw four cards and forfeit their turn.
WINNING THE GAME
Be the first player to use up your cards!
-----
You can require players to call "Unison!" when they’re down to their last card. If they forget to call it and another player catches them, they must draw two extra cards as a penalty. :D
