GOAL: ACCUMULATE BEATS IN YOUR KINGDOM'S TREASURY!

SETUP

  • Remove all specialty cards from the Monster Note Card deck, leaving only the note cards.
  • Shuffle the deck and place it face-down to form the draw pile.
  • Each player receives one monster and five minions.
  • Optional: Place helpful duckies on the landmark notes to assist beginners in finding their notes!

GAMEPLAY

Players battle for territory on the keys, but real success is determined by the number of beats stored in their kingdom’s treasury.

On your turn:
Draw a card and find the matching note on the piano mat. Place a minion on that note to claim the territory, and lay the note card face-up in front of you — this is the start of your kingdom’s treasury.

If you draw a note you’ve already claimed, stack the new minion on that territory to show you control multiple cards for that note. In your treasury, stack the new card with other matching note(s), placing the highest value card on top so everyone can easily see your strongest hold on that note.

Battle:
If the note drawn is already occupied by an enemy minion, players joust by comparing the note values on their cards.

  • Higher value wins. The player with the bigger card captures all lower value cards from that note and adds them to their own treasury — this is how players accumulate beats.
  • If you draw a lower card of a note already occupied by a note of higher value, you instantly lose both your card (to the owner of the higher note) and your minion (to exile) without even setting a toe on the note. Ouch!
  • Defeated minions are banished from the board and do not return to play. Exile them to the side so they aren’t confused with active minions.
  • The winner’s minion claims the territory. But remember: unless you hold the whole note card, your possession is never completely secure. :)

The Monster Round:
After five rounds are complete and all minions have been used, the monsters take the sixth and final turn. Each monster captures ALL of the cards on its landing note -- making the last round a potential game-changer as valuable note treasures can be taken from opponents. If two monsters land on the same note, the one with the higher value card wins all cards.

WINNING THE GAME

Players calculate the total number of beats contained on the cards in their kingdom’s treasury. The player with the most beats wins!
